A Garden Room for RHS Malvern February 21, 2019 09:16
While we have everything crossed for beautiful blue skies and warm days, that lush, green countryside in and around RHS Malvern is verdant for a reason - RAIN! So, one of the key elements of our stand design for Malvern has to be shelter. Which is where The Cottage Workshop come in.
About The Cottage Workshop: Unique Garden Buildings
Based in Hampshire, The Cottage Workshop offer a unique proposition in terms of outdoor buildings. As well as building beautiful, bespoke garden structures, they also provide a sustainable approach to commercial outdoor events for exhibitors and traders.
For a number of years, Mick and his small team have been creating the wooden chalets used by retailers at the renowned Winchester Cathedral Christmas Market. Made to fit and be sensitive to the wider environment at Winchester Cathedral, these durable, water tight spaces give artists and retailers a safe, secure space in which to display their work, while also providing shoppers with a little respite from the worst of the winter weather!
Best of all, the retail chalets are essentially 'flat packed' - reusable, year after year.
This sense of sustainability is so refreshing and absolutely aligned to our values, and those of the RHS, which set high targets and expectations around sustainability for commercial partners.
Another key feature of this innovative company is the fact that they offer a complete service - delivery, set up, set down and removal is all included. And they can supply one, two or half a dozen retail chalets for events. All of this is brilliant news for organisers and exhibitors. It means my focus can be on making stock, designing other elements of the stand and focusing on ensuring customers and visitors to our display have a really positive, enjoyable experience.
Last Friday, I got the opportunity to have a closer look at the chalet we'll be occupying at Malvern. Honestly, I was like a kid at Christmas - up with the dawn chorus, ready for the off! Mick kindly put it up (it took minutes!!) and I got the chance to measure up, thinking ahead about the fixtures and fittings I have in mind for our display.
Amid all my excitement, I also got chance to stop a minute and soak up the skill and craftsmanship that Mick puts into every element of his work. The chalet is so well constructed and thought through. It will be a privilege to show it off at RHS Malvern and treat it as 'home' for a few days.
With this element of the stand design in such great hands, my focus is now on how we make use of this beautiful, temporary garden room. Yikes! Watch this space!
